Exam support for students and parents

GCSE Examination Information

Dear Student, Parents and Carers,

This information is intended to help everyone concerned to prepare for the external exams that will take place this academic year. You will find the full exam timetable for the year, please remember that these dates are set by the exam boards and are fixed.  I would urge you to keep this information as a reminder of the dates that are relevant to you, particularly if you are thinking of booking a family holiday.

Clearly it is essential that all students are present for all of their exams. Absences due to illness will require a medical note and will almost definitely mean no marks awarded. Any unauthorised absence from an exam may result in the cost of entry being passed on to parents/carers.

Also included in the booklet are copies of the Joint Council for Qualifications posters that are required to be displayed outside the examination rooms. These posters detail the rules and regulations that all candidates are expected to follow during an exam.

It is very important that all students taking GCSE exams understand the very high standards that are expected of them, both by the school and by the exam boards. As a school we have a duty to report all cases of misconduct to the relevant exam board without delay. This might include talking to, or deliberately disturbing other students, or being in possession of unauthorised items such as mobile phones or other electronic devices eg smart watches. In a serious case of misconduct a student can find themselves being not only disqualified from the current examination, but also from all future exams. A requirement from 2018 onwards is that students are not allowed to wear a wristwatch during an examination.  This is in response to the new generation of smartwatches with internet access.

I would ask, therefore, that you read through the warning posters included at the back of this booklet, and ensure that the regulations are fully understood.  Any pages with the    Joint Council for Qualifications logo or the letters JCQ at the top is official exam board regulation and must be strictly adhered to.

Equipment is also an essential part of preparation for an exam and all students have a responsibility to ensure they arrive for an exam properly equipped.  We would ask for your support in ensuring that your child arrives for every exam with a BLACK pen, a pencil and a ruler.

Please contact the school should you have any further questions.

Finally may I take this early opportunity to wish all those taking exams this academic year the very best of luck.
