At Lathom High School we believe in equipping all students with the Mathematics skills in order to achieve academic success and to succeed in life. We have a team of enthusiastic, committed, and inspiring teachers who ensure the students enjoy and achieve when in Mathematics. Our Curriculum builds on what students already know and ensure every topic relates to everyday life. Programmes of study follow the new National Curriculum which emphasises the use of problem solving, fluency and mathematical reasoning.
The KS3 curriculum provides students with the foundations needed to be successful at KS4. It starts with building on knowledge gained from KS2. A strong emphasis in placed on problem solving and gaining a deep understanding within each topic. The topics studied include all elements of Number, Algebra, Data Handling, Geometry and Ratio and Proportion.
The KS4 curriculum builds on the knowledge gained from KS3 and prepares students for both the GCSE examination and A-level study. Programmes of study follow Pearson Edexcel scheme of learning. Students are exposed to exam board material at every opportunity. The GCSE examination consists of 3 papers, 1 non-calculator and 2 calculator papers. The examination tests pupils on applying standard techniques, reasoning interpreting and communicating, and solving non-routine problems.
Yearly entering in the UKMT challenge, Academic Mentor who provides support for pupils, Yearly Primary Maths Challenge, Edexcel Certificate offering to select students in KS4.
