Moving Up to Lathom High School 2020

Transition to High School – Our Lathom Offer

We are delighted that will be joining us from September 2020 and we would like to take this opportunity to welcome you as a family to our school.  The next five academic years will be a major chapter in the life of your child and we are absolutely committed to making this period special and purposeful.

The journey we take with your child begins now.  There is much that we can do to prepare the way, both practically and emotionally, so that your child will find the transition from primary school to high school as exciting and stress free as possible.

Getting to Know Your Child

It is extremely important that we become familiar faces in the life of your child over the coming months both within their own school setting and when we invite them, and you, to join us at Lathom High School.  The dates of these events and activities will be communicated to you in the coming weeks.

The Year 7 team, led by Mrs Marshall, will be ensuring a smooth and successful transition for your child.  They will shortly be contacting all primary schools to arrange a number of visits and events for all of our new students.

Please rest assured that the transition has been planned very carefully, so as not to overwhelm or confuse students (or parents!) in what can be an exciting, but unnerving time.  All staff assigned to the transition process are very experienced and know the school well.

Lathom Staff on all School Transport

We are the only school in the area where staff travel on the school buses to greet students at every bus stop in the morning and see each child safely to their bus stop at the end of the school day.  We offer a free bus service to any student who stays in school beyond 3.20pm to attend any of our extracurricular activities.  Our ‘late’ buses run at 4.00pm, 4.30pm and 5.00pm, with the exception of Fridays where there is just one late bus at 4.00pm.

Free School Uniform

For September 2020 Lathom will provide your child with a blazer, tie and PE kit all free of charge.  We will collect your child’s sizes on our Intake Evening, and the items will be ready for collection in July.

Summer School 17-21 August 2020

Attending summer school is a great way to experience life at Lathom.  During the week of activities your child will get the opportunity to meet other children starting Lathom High School in September 2020, as well as meeting lots of staff.  You will soon receive details of what you need to do to secure your child’s free place at the Lathom Summer School.

Support for Parents

At Lathom, we offer a ‘Drop In’ opportunity every Tuesday from 2.20pm to 5.00pm.  This is open to all current and future parents and provides a time for you to meet with a Senior Leader in school without the need for any appointment.  We also have a very well established Parents’ Forum at Lathom.  This is run by parents and allows parents to meet alongside members of Lathom staff to support the strategic development of the school.  You are warmly invited to attend either a Tuesday afternoon ‘Drop In’, a meeting of the Parents’ Forum or, ideally, both!  We will be in touch with you shortly with the next meeting date for Parents’ Forum.

Finally, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Marshall, our Senior Leader responsible for Transition, at the school.

Yours sincerely

Mrs J M Galbraith
